Plastic recycling machine supplier: Know How, Provide Key, Create Value.

How often do the crusher& shredder blades need to be sharpened and replaced?

In the PET bottle washing and recycling production line, the crusher blade is a key component of the crushing equipment. Its service life and replacement time are crucial to the equipment performance and production efficiency. The following is some professional knowledge about the blade material, sharpening frequency and replacement cycle.

II.The material of the crusher blade

The material of the blade needs to have good hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance to cope with the needs of long-term processing of PET bottle flakes. The commonly used blade materials are as follows.

1. High alloy steel (such as high-speed tool steel HSS, DC53, D2, etc.)

This type of steel has high hardness and strong wear resistance, which is suitable for long-term processing of PET bottle flakes. High-speed tool steel (HSS) can effectively deal with harder bottle flakes and reduce wear.

2. Tool steel (such as Cr12MoV)

It has high hardness and toughness, good wear resistance, and is suitable for medium-intensity crushing work.

3. Alloy steel (such as CrNi alloy steel)

It has good corrosion resistance and wear resistance, and is suitable for processing wet or corrosive PET bottle flakes.

4. Carbide (such as WC-Co carbide)

It has strong wear resistance and is suitable for long-term high-load work, especially for continuous crushing of large quantities of PET bottle flakes, although the cost is high.

In the process of PET bottle flake recycling, the use of high-speed tool steel (HSS) and carbide is the best solution, especially in application scenarios that require long-term and efficient crushing.

II. Assessment Methods for Replacement Cycle in Crusher Blades

1.Visual Inspection Method

Conduct regular examinations of tool wear characteristics, including:

▶ Degree of blade edge dullness

▶ Propagation of micro-cracks

▶ Surface coating delamination

Replacement criterion: Immediate replacement when significant wear or structural compromise is observed.

2.Quantitative Measurement Method

Utilize precision measuring instruments (e.g., vernier calipers, optical comparators) to assess:

Wear Rate (%) = [(Original Edge Thickness - Measured Thickness) / Original Thickness] × 100

Replacement threshold:

▶ Replace when wear exceeds 33% of original edge thickness

▶ Critical applications: Replace at ≥25% wear

III.Frequency of sharpening and replacement cycle

The wear of the blade mainly depends on the number of PET bottle flakes processed, the hardness of the PET bottle flakes and the material of the blade itself.

1. Blade wear rate: It may be affected by factors such as the use environment (such as whether there are foreign objects mixed in the PET bottle flakes), the blade material and the workload of the crusher. If the bottle flakes contain hard objects (such as metal, glass, etc.), the sharpening frequency may be higher.

2. Blade sharpening frequency: It is generally recommended to sharpen the blade after crushing 20 to 80 tons of PET bottle flakes. For high-quality alloy steel or high-speed tool steel blades, the sharpening frequency may be lower. Ordinary blades are generally unusable after sharpening 8-12 times.

3. Blade replacement cycle: The replacement cycle depends on the working intensity of the crusher, the material of the blade and the use condition.

Ordinary blades usually need to be replaced every 2-6 months. The specific replacement cycle depends on the crushing volume, the degree of blade wear and the working environment of the production line. If the crusher has uneven cutting, poor crushing effect or obvious blade damage, it is necessary to consider replacing new blades.
